A Professional Organization generally has four basic functions, to provide training, information and advice, promote research and development, and develop policy. It can be based anywhere on earth but is generally an international organization, as the need for qualified professionals to work in different countries is growing. For example, a doctor, lawyer, engineer or other qualified professional might find it necessary to work in India or China to practice his profession.

A Professional Organization has a wide range of responsibilities, as do other organizations. An example of this would be the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which represents the interests and values of pediatricians throughout the United States. The members are also responsible for producing the annual report, a publication that is widely read and consulted. The organization provides education and awareness raising as well as policy development. The members have many different areas of specialization in their professional fields and a common concern among all members.

There are several ways in which an organization's mandate is achieved, for example: by meeting regularly and voting on decisions; by having regular meetings; by establishing an elected board, which meets on a regular basis; or by having an elected General Secretary, who is responsible for organizing and managing the affairs of the organization. The Board and its policies are generally formulated by the General Secretary, who is elected on a continual basis.

The purpose of each meeting in a professional organization is to discuss the current affairs of the organization and to devise policies and procedures for future growth and development. The General Secretary is the face of the organization and its representative on a regular basis.

They work to establish the highest professional standards, and to ensure that their members are trained professionally. A professional organization is not just concerned with itself but are concerned with helping to bring about improvement and to improve the quality of life for its members, both individually and collectively.

The members of the professional organization are asked to contribute to the professional development of their fellow members by making volunteer efforts, giving away time and money to help other members, and promoting the organization by writing articles, making speeches, participating in fundraising campaigns, giving lectures and participating in seminars, and participating in projects which are beneficial to the organization. All members of the organization should be given adequate consideration and respect, not only for the services they render, but for their integrity, loyalty and . . . . . . ability to help others.

Membership in a professional organization is an expression of the desire to contribute to the betterment of society by helping fellow members. to reach their professional goals.

Membership in a professional organization exists at various levels and is offered to different groups and individuals. In addition, a wide range of organizations exist which may be further subdivided.

Membership in such organizations is usually voluntary and is based on the principles of trust, friendship, respect and common cause. Members are asked to make a contribution in order to attain the goals of the organization.
