A customer service associate (CSA) is one of the most common types of personnel in all of corporate America. Customers will approach a customer service associate to resolve their problems or concerns. Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) generally provide advice about a business's products and services and assist customers in processing orders, resolving questions, and providing information on an enterprise's products and/or services. CSR qualifications generally include good communication, excellent problem-solving skills, and computer programming knowledge. CSRs are also expected to have excellent customer service skills, as well as good interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
The CSA works closely with the customer to resolve their issues. As the representative, the customer is usually given a telephone number to call and an option to speak with a live person. The customer agent will listen to the customer's questions and concerns and then ask a series of yes or no questions. After receiving satisfactory answers, the CSR will take down the details of the conversation and send it along to the customer. If the customer doesn't have enough time to contact the CSA, the customer service agent can advise him or her of any additional issues that may arise in the future.
The customer service agent may be required to respond to calls or emails from customers at all hours of the day, seven days a week, but typically, they work only one day a week. Most customer representatives spend the rest of their time answering phones, taking calls and emails, attending seminars, training courses, and traveling to various offices in order to serve customers. Some employees even work as independent contractors. However, many customer service agents receive a salary based on commission earned for each person they service or meet with.
In order to become a successful and profitable customer service associate, you must first complete your basic education and training programs. You can get this type of training online, in your local community college, or from vocational schools or trade schools. If you don't have the time to attend a formal training program, you can attend a course at an online university or vocational school as long as you follow the program's instructions.
Some degree programs allow you to take part in on-the-job training and experience as well. This will give you a taste of the career and allows you to see if this career would be right for you. Once you have completed your training, you can apply for job positions in the company where you are employed.
Each program focuses on a particular skill set, such as customer service management, leadership, planning, teamwork, and project management. You should check with your prospective employer for their requirements.
Upon completion of your training, you will be issued an Associate's Certificate and will have the opportunity to take a test that determines whether you meet the requirements for a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Management. Once you receive your Associate's degree, you can apply to a four-year university to get a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) or Master's Degree in Business Administration.
As a Customer Service Associate, you will be able to work for an array of corporations, from big corporations to small, boutique companies. Depending on your choice, you can either get a full-time position with one of these companies or get a part-time job.
